Steam Power Plants

Steam power plants are widely used for the generation of electricity as well as for the purpose of co-generation whereas the range of a single unit can reach outputs of more than 1000 MW at live steam parameters of around 300 bar and 600°C leading to an efficiency of around 45%. Current research and development projects investigate the possibilities of realising even higher steam parameters of up to 700°C and 350 bar leading to an efficiency of up to 50%. 

A further differentiation can be made according to the applied fuel type, which determines the incineration technology and the boiler type.

Depending on factors like availability, location, cost, and customer specific demands, solid fuels such as lignite, hard coal/anthracite, biomass and waste, as well as fuel oil and fuel gas, can be applied.
